Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell are set to share the screen for the first time since their Anchorman days with the upcoming TV series The Shrink Next Door.
It’s been 16 years since Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell first shared the screen together in the now classic comedy film Anchorman, and six years since the two were last on screen together in the sequel film that was released in 2013.
However, half the Anchorman crew is getting back together, though this time on the small screen rather than the silver screen.
Variety reported earlier today that Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell will reunite for the upcoming TV series The Shrink Next Door, which will be based on the the popular podcast of the same name — which in turn is inspired by true events.
The Shrink Next Door is described as a dark comedy that centers on the the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, played by Paul Rudd, and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz, played by Will Ferrell.
The series will follow the two as Dr. Isaac Herschkopf begins to take over Marty’s life in increasingly intrusive ways, such as moving into Marty’s home and taking over his family business until their relationship devolves into one filled with manipulation, power grabs, and complete dysfunction.
In addition to leading the series, Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd would likewise act as executive producers for the project. The Big Sick and Hello, My Name Is Doris director Michael Showalter — who also recently worked with Paul Rudd in Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later — is set to direct the series, which will likewise have Veep and Succession scribe Georgia Pritchett working behind the scenes.
Though The Shrink Next Door is currently not attached to a streaming service or a network, Variety reported that the series is currently in development at Media Rights Capital (MRC) Television, which is the same the production company behind Netflix shows like Ozark and House of Cards, so it could be that we’ll be hearing news of a pickup soon enough.
