Director Ava DuVernay has found the perfect writer to help her bring The New Gods to the big screen.
According to The Wrap, comic book writer Tom King has officially been tapped to co-write the script of the upcoming adaptation of Jack Kirby’s The New Gods.
King, who currently serves as the writer of DC Comic’s Batman, will work alongside DuVernay to co-write the script for the upcoming comic book film.
In addition to co-writing alongside King, DuVernay will also serve as director on the project.
The When They See Us helmer took to Twitter to share the good news with comic fans everywhere, tweeting: “Hey @TomKingTK. Ready to write NEW GODS, buddy? A.”
DuVernay paired her tweet with a selfie of herself and King, who from the looks of the background, are already hard at work on production for the upcoming film.

Based off of Kirby’s comic book series of the same name, The New Gods centers around a group of new deities who come into existence after the world of the old gods of classic mythology are destroyed during Ragnarok.
The course of Kirby’s tale takes place mainly on two separate, and incredibly different, planets: the lush green paradise known as New Genesis, and the scorched fire pit riddled Apokolips.
New Genesis is ruled by Highfather, a god who’s considered to be a leader that promotes tolerance and justice. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Apokolips answer to Darkseid, whose main goal is to conquer the universe and eliminate free will.
There’s still no word on when we can expect The New Gods to hit the big screen.
